Species / Aporrhais Clarendonensis

Stromboidea

Original description of Aporrhais sowerbii clarendonensis by Wrigley, 1938:

  • The spire is short and broad, with a finely nodular carina on the shoulder of the last whorl, which continues into the terminal rear point of the expanded lip. Some specimens show a very slight, plain, second ridge in front of the main carina. All these are small by comparison with later forms. A few specimens are known from the London Clay of Southampton Well (dug about 1845) with the last whorl devoid of a ridge, although one is developed on the lip expansion.

Locus typicus: Clarendon near Salisbury, Wiltshire County, South West Region, England, UK
