  • "Im blaugrauen unteren Mergel bei Flonheim gegen Gauböckelheim, mit Cytherea incrassata, Buccinum Cassidaria etc. häufig; auch bei Laubenheim."

Description of Aporrhais tridactylus by Michelotti, 1861, p. 107:

  • "Testa turrita; anfractibus subcarinatis, ultimo binodoso, caeteris costis superioribus longitudinalibus, obliquis; labro palmato; canali baseque obliquis, subfoliaceis.
  • Loc. Dego, Mioglia. Ter. mioc. infér.
  • Loc. Mayence. Ter. mioc. moyen.
  • Comment Michelotti, 1861, p. 108: "Je possčde une espčce des environs de Mayence, analogue aux individus que j'ai trouvés dans notre miocčne inférieur, mais je ne connais ni le nom de l'auteur ni l'ouvrage qui en contient la description. En conséquence je m'empresse d'adopter le nom d'Aporrhais tridactylus pour indiquer une espčce commune aux deux bassins. Bien que par sa forme générale cette espčce soit voisine de la Rostellaria pied-de-pélican commune dans la Méditerranée on l'en distingue par ce qu'ŕ l'exception du dernier tour les autres n'ont point de tubercules, mais des côtes longitudinales aux carčnes prononcées. Longueur présumée 25 mill."

  • "Aporrhais (Ap.) tridactylus (Braun, in Sandberger, 1861) (figs 32-37). — Rupelian and Chattian from the Mainz Basin, Germany. Rather broad shell with ornament consisting of heavy tubercles, never reticulate. Juveniles with four digitations, adults with five. Adapical one attached to spire, forming an angle ofabout 90° with second digit. Siphonal digit very short, broad, turning ventrally. Material studied in SMF and RM."
