Original Description of Strombus (Macrostrombus) mulepenensis by Petuch, 1994, p. 260:

  • "Shell of average size for subgenus, broad, dorso-ventrally flattened; spire moderately elevated, slender and concave in profile; shoulder angled, marked by wide, broad rib; body whorl sculptured with 20-24 low, wide flattened ribs; rib development variable, ranging from obscure (as in holotype) to heavy, resembling S. mayacensis; spire whorls with 8-10 thin spiral cords; smaller secondary cords sometimes present between primary cords; spire whorls with numerous small, rounded knobs; stromboid notch wide and very shallow."
