Original Description of Strombus (Macrostrombus) scotti by Petuch, 1994, p. 260:

• "Shell large for subgenus, with extremely elevated, protracted spire; spire whorls straight-sided, elongately conical; body whorl heaviliy sculptured with 20-24 large, wide, flattened, evenly-spaced cords; cords on subsutural area of shoulder crossed by numerous low, closely-packed axial riblets, producing nodulose effect; spire whorls with 8 strong, evenly-spaced spiral cords; area posterior of suture marked by row of evenly-spaced, low, rounded knobs; shoulder of body whorl angled, with row of large, low, rounded knobs; 6-8 low axial plicae present on dorsum; sromboid notch wide, very shallow."
