Original Description of Pleurotoma deformis Philippi, 1887, p. 40:

• "Testa oblongo-turrita; anfractus penultimus exquisite carinatus, carina demum evanescente velut gibbosus, deinde modice convexus; anfractus posteriores (s. superiores) parum convexi, omnes laeves; spira dimidiam altitudinem occupans, acuta; apertura oblonga, antice effusa? nasus (s. cauda) nullus? - Longit. ultra 24, crass. 11 mm."

Comment Philippi, 1887, p. 40:

• "Gehörte zu der Sammlung des verstorbenen D. Fr. Javier Ovalle. Es waren 2 Exemplare, deren Oberfläche nicht vom anhängenden Gestein frei genug war, um die Anwachsstreifen erkennen zu lassen; deutlicher waren Querstreifen. Der Kiel war vielleicht etwas wellig oder knotig. Da beide Exemplare gleichmässig den Kiel und die sonderbare Anschwellung der letzten Windungen zeigten, so muss man wol glauben, dass diese Bildung nicht zufällig und monströs ist. Wir werden sehen, dass mehrere Arten, und in andern Geschlechtern, eine ähnliche Missbildung zeigen."

PI.4526 (n = 1, labeled as “paralectotipo”). Shuto (1992: 22) transferred this to the Nassariidae, as Bullia (Buccianops) deformis (Philippi, 1887)."
