Conrad, 1860 gives no description of Pugnellus densatus. He gives only a diagnosis of the genus Pugnellus (see there).

Stratum typicum: Ripley Formation, Maastrichtian, upper Cretaceous

Types: "The holotype has been lost, but a hypotype is still preserved in the collections of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia (ANSP 15016) and compares well with the specimen on plate 14, figures 4,5." (Sohl, 1960, p. 113)

Description of Pugnellus densatus Conrad, 1860 by Weller, 1907:

• "Internal casts of median size, subovate in form, the dimensions of a nearly complete one being: height, 35 mm; greatest diameter, 20 mm.; height of aperture, about 22 mm.; width of aperture, 7.5 mm. Volutions about four in number, the suture well defined, the height of the spire less than one-half the total height of the shell. Volutions of the spire gently convex and nearly vertical for two-thirds of this height from the suture below, curving much more strongly above to the upper suture. Surface of the cast without well-defined markings."
