Species / Canarium Stoutjesdijki

Stromboidea

Original Description of Canarium (Elegantum) stoutjesdijki by Dekkers, 2022, p. 91:

  • "Shells of moderately small size, height of holotype 25.5 mm, solid, somewhat elongate and rugose. Protoconch abraded on holotype, teleoconch with thin spiral cords (of which two are stronger) and weak axial ribbing; the subsutural ramp is at an angle of 45° compared to the shell axis before sloping almost straight down. Every whorl bears rather broad old varices that are oriented in the same degree, almost connected, but divided by a subsutural cord. Ultimate whorl with about 15 axial ribs (of which 5 ventrally) bearing a small extending hooked knob on the shoulder; these small knobs are small dots on the pre-ultimate whorl, just as on the primary cord below the shoulder. Body whorl dorsally with 33–35 almost evenly spaced narrow spiral ribs, which on the upper half of the ventral side flatten and become strong rounded cords on the lower half. Body whorl in the same degree with a strong knob on the right pointing backwards. Columella almost straight, well defined on the left with a furrow separating it from the body whorl. Columella bearing about 7 lirae on the posterior side and about 10 on the anterior side, centrally smooth. Aperture inside the labrum bearing around 35 lirae, running to the very end of the labrum. Strombid notch rather deep, forming a half circle. Strombid flap small but sharply pointed. Anterior channel short. Thickened apertural rim, the dorsal spiral ribbing persisting to the end of the labrum."
