Original Description of Strombus pulchellus by Reeve, 1851, pl. 19:

  • "Stromb. testa subquadrato-ovata, spira acuminato-turrita, anfractibus radiatim sulcatis, superne rotundatis, creberrime nodoso-plicatis, apicem versus conspicue varicosis, anfractu ultimo costa tumida pone labrum, columella collosa, labro alato, intus fortiter radiatim corrugato; albida, rufescente-spadiceo fasciata et lentiginosa, columellae parte superiori et aperturae fauce intense purpureis."
  • "The pretty Strombus. Shell somewhat squarely ovate, spire acuminately turreted, whorls radiately grooved, rounded at the upper part, very closely nodosely plaited, conspicuously varicose towards the apex, last whorl with a swollen rib behind the lip, columella callous, lip winged, strongly radiately wrinkled within; whitish, banded and freckled with reddish-fawn, upper part of the columella and interior of the aperture deep purple.
